Lampard would welcome the chance to play with Wayne Rooney…
Frank Lampard wants Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney to join him at Stamford Bridge, reports ESPN.
The 35-year-old could play a key role in Jose Mourinho’s assault on the Premier League title, but would welcome the addition of his England teammate.
“I think Chelsea have made their interest known and it’s a decision for them and Wayne to come to,” Lampard told Sky News. “Were going into the season strong but, if the manager wants to add another player, we all hope he gets his man.”
Rooney has been continually linked with the Blues, but United are adamant that the 27-year-old will stay at not be leaving the club. The England forward is still upset by comments David Moyes made earlier in the summer, in which he intimated that Rooney’s value to the squad was a backup for Robin Van Persie.
Despite a quiet season by his standards, Rooney is still rightly regarded as one of the best players in the league, and would no doubt make Chelsea a considerably stronger side.
Lampard though, didn’t try and persuade the striker to join while on England duty this week.
“I didn’t speak to Wayne about it when I was with England last week, he was training and he was focused, and I’m not privy to the transfer stuff. That’s for clubs to decide, I’m a player. I just keep my mouth shut and train and play,” said the goalscoring midfielder.
Rooney moving to Chelsea would be one of the major signings in Premier League history, but as the transfer window draws close, it is looking increasingly unlikely that United will sanction a deal.
