The Spanish giants don’t want to sell Modric.
Real Madrid have warned Chelsea that midfielder Luka Modric will not be sold this summer, after the Blues made inquiries about the Croatian’s availability, according to Goal.
The 28-year-old has been in brilliant form for Los Blancos this season and is now an established star in the Madrid first team under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho sees Modric as the ideal player to come in and improve his midfield, but the Spanish giants have told the west Londoners they will not entertain offers for the former Tottenham Hotspur ace.
Mourinho is desperate to find a long-term replacement at Stamford Bridge for veteran Frank Lampard and now may turn to Spurs’ Paulinho instead.
It’s understood that Modric would like a return to England at some point in his career, but currently the Croatia international is happy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
This is a complete turnaround from 12 months ago, when the midfielder had just ended a stuttering first year with Madrid after a £33m transfer from Tottenham in 2012.
Modric struggled to adapt to life in La Liga and Los Merengues were thought to be open to offers for the player back then.
However, since Ancelotti took charge all that has changed and the ex-Dinamo Zagreb man has played an integral part in the club’s march on the Spanish title and the Champions League final.
Modric has played 47 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.
