Blues set to beat Arsenal and Liverpool to Spain striker in January.
Chelsea are ready to snatch David Villa from under the noses of Arsenal and Liverpool, reports the Daily Mirror.
Barcelona striker Villa has struggled for first-team football at the Nou Camp this term, staring just six La Liga matches all season.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 31-year-old, while Liverpool and Swansea are also thought to be monitoring the World Cup winner’s situation in Spain.
But Chelsea have now emerged as serious contenders for Villa’s signature and are ready to bid £12m for the former Valencia man next month.
The Blues interim boss Rafa Benitez is seeking competition for striker Fernando Torres and the sale of Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool has left Benitez short of options.
Villa was prolific at the Mestalla and during his first two seasons at the Nou Camp but suffered a broken leg last term, resulting in 8 months on the sidelines.
With the likes of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Christian Tello all competing for places alongside Lionel Messi, Villa has spent most of his time on the bench under new boss Tito Vilanova but has still found the net five times in the league for the Catalans.
Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarretta has insisted: “In January, we will keep Villa.”
But Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all believe the Spanish giants will sell for the right price.
