Blues to move for German enforcer after Romeu blow.
Chelsea are tracking Schalke midfielder Roman Neustadter and could move for the German international in January, fanatix has learnt.
Neustadter has been on fine form this term, starting every match as Schalke won their Champions League group ahead of Arsenal.
The 24-year-old was rewarded for his progress this season with his first full cap for Germany in November and he has been tipped to have a big future with the national team.
However, the former Mainz enforcer only joined Schalke on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer and Bundesliga giants are understood to have no interest in selling the player in January.
Chelsea’s search for a new defensive midfielder is likely to be stepped up in January after the news that Oriel Romeu faces six months out with cruciate ligament damage.
Jon Obi Mikel is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge after his embroilment in the Mark Clattenburg race row, while Frank Lampard is likely to fall victim of Roman Abramovich’s over 30s policy.
Neustadter has four years remaining on current contract at the Veltins Arena.
