The laid-back Brazilian centre-half is taking the rap for the Newcastle defeat!
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will drop Brazilian centre-half David Luiz for the Champions League tie against Schalke on Wednesday evening, following a dressing room row on Saturday, reports The Daily Star.
Luiz was one of the culprits of an awful Chelsea performance, as the title hopefuls slumped to a miserable 2-0 defeat away to Newcastle United.
According to the reports, Luiz was criticised in the dressing room for his on-pitch attitude by his teammates, who felt he wasn’t committed to the cause. The talented stopper pulled out of a challenge with Shola Ameobi, which incensed Chelsea fans and his manager alike.
Although Gary Cahill is set to return to the starting lineup, Mourinho is not planning on selling Luiz in January, who he still sees as an important member of his squad.
Barcelona were heavily interested in the ball-playing defender in the summer, but the Portuguese boss was adamant that he would not be leaving.
Mourinho traditionally favours no nonsense centre-halves though, and it seems that he would naturally favour a partnership between John Terry and Cahill.
Luiz will be desperate to guarantee first-team football with the World Cup coming up in Brazil next summer, and if he fails to get his place back in the side, he could try and force a move this winter.
