London clubs set to battle it out for £20m-rated Willian.
Shakhtar Donetsk may consider allowing their prize asset Willian to leave the club for the Premier League during the January transfer window, according to reports in the Independent.
It had been widely expected that the highly-talented Brazil international would not be allowed to leave Ukraine this month, with the mega-rich club believed to want to keep hold of the playmaker’s services for when the Champions League returns to action in February.
However, that tough stance has now apparently softened following the recent arrival of fellow Brazilian Taison from Metalist Kharkhiv for £12.4 million, meaning that Shakhtar would now be willing to listen to offers in the region of £20m for the player after all.
And, following Willian’s late arrival back from Brazil for the club’s winter training camp, head coach Mircea Lucescu has reportedly told his employers that the 24-year-old can be allowed to depart Donetsk, putting Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur on alert.
Both London clubs have been keeping close tabs on the player for some time now, with Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas having previously attempted to buy Willian when managing the Blues and Spurs, only to fail on each occasion.
It is believed though that in a straight fight for the winger, it is the West Londoners’ greater financial might that will prevail.
