Manchester United set for talks over the sale of their prized asset, with Chelsea and Arsenal monitoring the transfer situation carefully.
Manchester United will meet with Wayne Rooney to discuss his future in the coming days, with the forward still keen on leaving Old Trafford according to the Daily Mail.
The England international submitted a transfer request at the end of last season, and was not selected in the Red Devils’ final few games under retiring manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and it appears that the subsequent weeks have not altered Rooney’s intentions.
New Manchester United boss David Moyes will now discuss the prospective price tag for Rooney, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea interested in his signature, with the 27 year-old also not ruling out a switch abroad.
Whilst the Gunners’ interest has been established longer, it is Chelsea who are favourites to sign Wayne Rooney this summer.
The England forward’s 13 goals and 13 assists in 27 starts in Barclays Premier League and UEFA Champions League this past season are a highly respectable total – despite erratic selection in a campaign disrupted by injury and shift in position.
Rooney played on both wings, up front and even in midfield as his versatility proved his undoing at Old Trafford, with Robin Van Persie immediately becoming first choice striker for Manchester United.
A move to Chelsea or Arsenal could grant him the status he desires, and a fresh start could be for the best for all parties.
