England manager Fabio Capello has revealed that Wayne Rooney will not be distracted by his father’s arrest during the the crunch Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro on Friday.
Wayne Rooney Snr has been detained amid accusations of betting irregularities on Thursday as part of an ongoing police investigation and there were concerns that the development could see the Manchester United striker withdraw from the match in Podgorica.
However, Capello has moved to dispel the notion by telling reporters: “He told me ‘absolutely no problems’. He is sure this poses no problems.”
Rooney Jnr also received the backing of his international skipper John Terry who underlined the player’s value within the side.
“Wayne is focused on the game,” said Terry. “We all realise the importance of that. It is important for him to go and play his football. That’s all that matters to us.”
