The 20-year-old was in much demand this summer.
As the reputation of Chelsea starlet Romelu Lukaku continues to grow with good performances, several sides were interested in the forward this summer including Wolfsburg, reports German daily Bild.
Before the Belgium international made the loan switch to Everton on transfer deadline day, the Bundesliga club were touting the attacker and wanted to sign the Belgian on a similar deal.
The German club actually wanted to look into securing Lukaku on a permanent deal as well after 12 months on a temporary basis, but the Blues don’t want to let the starlet leave.
It has been a rapid rise to fame for the striker, who made the player’s professional debut for Anderlecht when just 16-years-old, before being signed by the 2010 Premier League champions for £19m two years ago.
Lukaku then spent a years on-loan back in Belgium, before impressing for West Bromwich Albion during a similar deal last season.
The forward scored 17 league goals for the Baggies in 2012/13, which included netting a hat-trick during Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever match in charge of Manchester United.
Despite still being relatively young, Lukaku has already earned 21 caps for Belgium – although has a mediocre goal-scoring record of just three strikes.
It is still quite a coup for the Toffees and new manager Roberto Martinez to land the youngster however, with an impressive tally for West Brom giving the Goodison Park faithful a reason to get excited.
By chance the Merseyside club’s first match now the transfer window is closed is actually against Chelsea, meaning Lukaku won’t be eligible to play.
