Queensland side is hanging on as Parramatta’s season goes from bad to worse.
The Brisbane Broncos are still in the hunt to claim the eighth and final spot in the NRL finals after they defeated the Parramatta Eels 22-12.
Needing to win ever game in the last month of the regular season the Broncos have kept their heads above water and now are just a point outside of the cutoff, with games against Penrith, Newcastle and Canterbury yet to come.
After star centre Justin Hodges succumbed to a season ending injury last week, most were saying the Broncos has little to no chance of playing in the post-season.
However, after downing the lowly Eels by 10 points, they are still in with a chance.
The loss all but consigns the Eels to their second wooden-spoon in as many seasons, with star fullback Jarryd Hayne limping off in the second half with a knee injury.
Josh Hoffman was outstanding for Brisbane in the win as he scored a try and ran for 156m thanks to seven tackle busts, while also pulling off two try-saving intercept.
However, it was not all good news for the Broncos as they have two worrying injury concerns stemming from the match.
Ben Hunt limped off with eight minutes left in the game due to a groin complaint while Josh McGuire went to the changerooms after copping a knock to his left knee.
Brisbane will be out to take another big step towards the finals when they tackle Penrith next weekend while the Eels could be in for more pain, as they take on a Melbourne Storm with a point to prove after slipping to fourth on the ladder.
