Washington QB Robert Griffin III has regained the starting job, albeit because of injuries, and will be the team’s starter for Week 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Head coach Jay Gruden made the announcement on Monday afternoon.
Gruden said the plan is to start Robert Griffin III Saturday against the Eagles.

Griffin, the former Pro Bowler and 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year, has struggled in his third year with the team, going 1-4 as the starter and 0-3 since returning from an injury in Week 9. Griffin was benched in Week 13 after his three-game losing streak in favor of Colt McCoy, but McCoy suffered an injury against the New York Giants and is struggling to recover from it. In relief of McCoy, Griffin went 18 of 27 for 236 yards and a TD. His 106.4 passer rating was his highest of the season since his 2013 for a game he played to completion.

There had been speculation that with Washington doing reasonably well without Griffin in the lineup that they would be willing to part with the former No. 2 overall pick who the team gave up 3 first-round draft picks to acquire, but if Griffin plays well enough in the final two games of the season the team may decide to exercise their 5th-year option on him and have him compete for the starting job in 2015.
