Agent deals blow to Barcelona’s hopes of signing defender.
PSG defender Thiago Silva will not be leaving the club this summer according to his agent, despite interest from Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Brazilian international has been subject to interest from the Catalans again, and with speculation suggesting that PSG would target his compatriot and Roma defender Marquinhos as a replacement, it appeared possible that the club captain could depart.
However, agent Paulo Tonietto has dismissed reports that Silva is ready to quit the French capital after just one season, stating that the 28-year-old will “honour his contract until the end” as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Barcelona had hoped to pair the former AC Milan stopper with Gerard Pique at the heart of their defence next season, but it would appear that they will have to extend their search away from Paris which could now lead them back to Marquinhos.
The 19-year-old impressed during his first season at the Stadio Olimpico last year, but has indicated that he will remain with the club for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, Silva joined the Parisians along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer, and went on to help the club lift the league title last season as well as progress to the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
While his future seems to lie in Paris, the same can’t be said for his Swedish team-mate who has again been linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.
Following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure last month, Ibrahimovic was said to be unimpressed by Laurent Blanc’s appointment, and despite the arrival of Edinson Cavani, reports in the Italian media claim that the 31-year-old will not stick around to form a formidable partnership with the Uruguayan international.
