Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan crossed paths on Friday at the Fitzroy Lodge Boxing Club in London and discussed a potential bout between them.
Khan continues his desperate pursuit of Mayweather, but he revealed on Thursday that he would be open to fighting his former stable partner in the future if the American avoids them both.
According to Pacquiao, he has now agreed to terms on a fight with Mayweather which included a 60-40 purse split in favour of the unbeaten superstar along with the venue, date and a drug-testing plan.
However, Mayweather insists that Pacquiao can’t have agreed to anything because he has no say in the negotiations given that he is represented by Top Rank and promoter Bob Arum.
Nevertheless, according to the Daily Mail, Pacquiao said: “I think now that Floyd and me is going to happen. It looks like it.”
While the situation continues to rumble on, there is a sense that this is the closest that the pair have come to getting in the ring to fight each other, but it appears as though there is a Plan B.
“Just in case Floyd doesn’t come through we regard Amir as the best possible alternative. He and Manny would make for a very exciting fight and Manny would be more than happy to do it at Wembley stadium,” adviser Michael Koncz said.
“We are looking at that possibility and also Abu Dhabi as another potential venue. But of course we are still working on Mayweather.”
Khan added: “I’ve been looking at Wembley which would be a great stage for me and Manny and Abu Dhabi is very much in the running.”
It is expected that an announcement will be made before the end of the month if Mayweather and Pacquiao are to fight, but if that fails to materialise again, then Pac-Man could be heading for England.
