Veterans Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce led the way for Doc River’s team with a double-double each, Garnett shooting 27 points with 10 rebounds while Pierce posted up 12 points and 11 rebounds.
After many questioned the ability of the Celtics to reach the play-offs and further after the news that Rondo was ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL, Garnett revealed the secret to their success.
“We’re fighters, we’re a team that’s going to compete for 48 minutes. It’s not always pretty and we’re not perfect, we’re human beings and we play hard,” he told reporters after the game.
Rudy Gay continued to impress after his arrival from the Memphis Grizzlies just over a week ago, finishing with 25 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Raptors who also welcomed back Andrea Bargnani from injury.
Scoring from all areas has been key for the Celtics, with six players finishing with double figures. Courtney Lee, Avery Bradley and Brandon Bass continue to contribute, but it was Garnett who led by example and showed just how important he is to their success.
