Coral slash odds from 25/1 down to just 3/1 on Brighton boss.
Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gustavo Poyet becoming the next Chelsea head coach, says the Sun.
There are still Premier League tickets available for Newcastle v Chelsea at St James’ Park on April 13.
A flurry of bets were placed with Corals on Wednesday on the former Blues midfield player taking over the managerial reins at Stamford Bridge from under-pressure interim boss Rafael Benitez, so much so that the odds on the one-time Uruguay international being named the next Chelsea manager fell dramatically from 25/1 down to just 3/1.
“The sudden surge of bets on Poyet suggests something significant may have gone on in the Chelsea boardroom,” said spokesman Simon Clare.
Spaniard Benitez is under huge pressure in west London after a string of poor recent results, both in the Premier League as well in the both domestic cup competitions, with the club throwing away a two-goal lead at top-flight strugglers Reading on Wednesday night to only draw 2-2.
Meanwhile, Poyet himself has always said that it would be next to impossible to turn the job down should he ever be approached by owner Roman Abramovich.
“The problem is Chelsea is too big to say ‘no’”, said Poyet.
“So I think most managers would take it anyway.”
