The Catalans close in on a transfer for the defender.
Barcelona are making their move for Chelsea star David Luiz with executives from the club having flown to London to finalise a deal for the defender, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Having secured the £48.6m transfer of Neymar earlier in the window, Barca have made a new centre-back their only remaining priority and Luiz is their No.1 target having already missed out on Thiago Silva.
The Catalans are hoping to agree terms with the Brazilian, before then submitting an official bid to the Blues once the Spanish champions are sure the 26-year-old wants to join them.
If this is not possible then the four-time European champions will instead turn their attention to Liverpool’s Daniel Agger – but Luiz remains the priority for the moment.
Chelsea do not need to sell anyone this summer and the Brazil international was an important part of the Europa League winning side last year, therefore the club are in a position to demand at least £40m for the defender.
Despite the large fee, Barca are desperate for new defensive recruitment with the club conceding too many goals last term – most notably a 7-0 aggregate defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
With constant fitness concerns over club captain Carles Puyol, both Javier Mascherano and Adriano have been used out of position to partner Gerard Pique at the back in recent times.
However, neither of these options have been consistently successful and now the La Liga champions want Luiz and hope that the centre-back will help force through a move from Stamford Bridge to the Nou Camp.
