Arsene Wenger wants to sign Victor Valdes at the end of the season…
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has earmarked a future move for Barcelona’s keeper Victor Valdes as a priority, the the Spanish stopper would rather join Monaco, reports the Daily Mail.
The 31-year-old keeper recently started ahead of Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas for the Spanish national side, but is definitely leaving the Nou Camp at the end of the season to seek pastures new.
Barcelona have been linked with a whole host of possible replacements, including Chelsea owned Thibaut Courtois and Liverpool owned Pepe Reina, but the Catalan giants have agreed a £6.75m fee with Borussia Monchengladbach for Marc-Andre ter Stegen to join next June.
Arsenal have in form Polish stopper Wojciech Szczesny between the sticks for them at the moment, but Wenger is reportedly loathe to miss out on the opportunity to sign a world renowned performer for free.
Valdes has hinted though that his future might lie with up and coming Ligue 1 club Monaco, because his former teammates and French centre-back Eric Abidal currently plays for the provincial club.
“Playing alongside him again would be special,” said Valdes, who has seen Barcelona pick up eight wins from their opening eight league matches so far this term.
