Messi is still top dog despite Neymar’s arrival…
Barcelona’s president Sandro Rosell has made sure that following Neymar’s arrival, there will be no confusion as to who the main man is at the Nou Camp, reports the club’s official website.
Questions have been raised whether Neymar and Messi would be able to play in the same team, but Rosell has quashed any lingering doubts about which player will spearhead the side.
“No one is better than Messi. He’s the best footballer in the history of the club and for me, he’s the best player in the history of the sport. He’s the only rooster in the henhouse,” Rosell told Spanish television channel 8tv.
Rossell believes Neymar on the other hand, is still raw potential – but that he will eventually become a key part of Barcelona’s superb side.
“Neymar is a great player and a great person who has a lot of potential. He can be a great team-mate to Iniesta, Alba, Cesc, Xavi,” he added.
Rosell could well be trying to ease the pressure on the 21-year-old Brazilian, who has inadvertently increased expectations on himself enormously after a fantastic Confederations Cup campaign.
Neymar would be expected to play on the left of a front-three, with Messi in a central ‘false-nine’ role, and Pedro cutting in from the right.
Barcelona will hope Neymar can add goals to the team, as the team undeniably relied heavily on Messi last year. He scored a whopping 44 per cent of Barcelona’s goals, and the Catalan club will hope that the new £50m Brazilian prodigy will ease the burden on the four time World Player of the Year.
