Could Spain striker move to Emirates Stadium in January transfer window?
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has spoken out about the David Villa transfer rumours – and it is not good news for Arsenal.
The Spain striker has long been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium in this January transfer window, but Rosell does not want the 31 year-old to leave.
“I reject absolutely the transfer of Villa in the January window,” said Rosell.
“He is ours and we need him.”
That may be up for debate.
Villa has only started five games in La Liga this season, and one in the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona are currently 11 points clear of second placed Atletico Madrid in the league, and won their Champions League group convincingly – Villa only playing from the beginning in the dead rubber against Benfica in their final match.
It is fair to say that Barca could probably cope without David Villa – as talented a forward as he is.
Perhaps Rosell is simply trying to up the price of his player – as despite Villa’s age, he is certainly high in demand.
As Spain’s record highest ever goalscorer, Villa is well proven in front of net, and could be the clinical finisher needed to help Arsenal qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Perhaps he could also help them to win that long awaited trophy.
It looks like Barcelona will drive a hard bargain.
