Ronaldo still strong favourite for Ballon D’or, but his brilliant Argentine rival returns to the pitch with a fantastic brace…
The race for the Ballon D’or is nearing its conclusion, and the winner is set to be announced on January 13.
Four time consecutive winner Lionel Messi has made the three man shortlist, along with Real Madrid’s brilliant Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, and Bayern Munich’s excellent winger Franck Ribery.
While Messi and Ribery both picked up silverware in 2013, neither scored goals at the rate the phenomenal Portuguese flyer managed to, as this graphic shows:

Messi returned from injury against Getafe last night in a 4-0 victory, and scored a fantastic brace despite being on the pitch for only 27 minutes.
Ribery enjoyed the best year of his career with his German side in 2013, and was a key reason they managed to secure an historic treble, which included a Champions League victory over Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Following his blistering calendar year though, Ronaldo though has been installed as the 1/7 favourite, with Messi & Ribery considered outsiders.
