Bottom-placed Azerbaijan host fellow Group F strugglers Northern Ireland in this World Cup qualifier at the Eighth Kilometer District Stadium.
Neither side can qualify for the tournament in Brazil next summer but there is of course still pride to play for and a chance for the managers to try out new ideas.
Victory over group leader Russia earlier in the campaign briefly gave the Northern Irish a slight hope of finishing in the top two, but a 2-4 defeat at home to Portugal courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick and a disappointing loss in Luxembourg followed.
The hosts meanwhile are actually unbeaten in four international matches, including an impressive draw in Israel in their last qualifier.
The last time these two sides met in the group was nearly a year ago, when a 96th minute strike from David Healy saved a point for the Irish in Belfast.
The visitors have a number of injuries ahead of the match and experienced defender Aaron Hughes and Aberdeen striker Josh Magennis have been ruled out and replaced by Rory McArdle and Andy Little respectively.
Azerbaijan manager Berti Vogts meanwhile is using this essentially meaningless game to blood some youngsters and veteran duo Branimir Subasic and Aleksandr Chertoganov have not made the cut, despite having almost 100 international caps between them.
