Young Australian star Nick Kyrgios says he is unsure if he will feature in the Australian Open after his suffering left knee and back issues during the Sydney International.
Kyrgios was clearly bothered during the late stages of his 6-1, 6-7 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5) loss to Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz on Tuesday night.
It was the 19-year-old’s first match after a four-month long hiatus due to injury and fatigue.
“I am obviously shattered that I haven’t had the right preparation at all for all these tournaments,” he was quoted as saying by AAP.
“I am just doing whatever I can to get out there and compete but I am not at the level I would like to be at.”
Kyrgios went as far to say that he was unsure if he would feature in the opening major of the year.
“I can only do so much for the Australian Open I guess … so we’ll see how it goes,” he said.
