Former Australian Test leg spinner Stuart MacGill says Shane Watson is not a number three batsman after yet another failure in Brisbane.
MacGill says Watson is not suited to the number three batting position and should consider dropping to the middle order as an all-rounder.
“I know he likes batting up the order. For some reason Australia likes him batting up the order,” he told espncricinfo.
“But he’s made just four hundreds. I am not sure what is happening with him.
“He’s an all-rounder especially with Mitch Marsh injured so I just think there is an opportunity for him in the middle order and hopefully I don’t fall asleep talking about this again next Test match.”
Watson made 25 during Australia’s first innings in Brisbane before being caught by Shikhar Dhawan.
