Australia are well and truly in control of this Ashes series with England, as the hosts take an unassailable lead going into day four of the 2nd Test.
On a pitch at the Adelaide Oval that was seen by most to favour batsmen, Australian captain and vice-captain Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin both made centuries to give the home team a solid foundation in the first innings.
The Three Lions looked shaky but still in it as they battled to 111-3, only for Mitchell Johnson to produce another bowling master-class and finish with figures of 7-40 as the English slumped to 172 all-out.
Neither skipper Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen impressed with the bat yet again, with the only saving grace for the visitors being Ian Bell’s stubborn 72 not-out and Michael Carberry’s 60.
However, things for the Aussies didn’t start well in their second innings as James Anderson took the game to them and snatched two wickets in three balls, leaving them floundering on 4-2.
Opener David Warner dug deep and finished the day with an unbeaten 83, as despite the fact Clarke was also dismissed by Monty Panesar the Baggy Greens ended day three on 132-3.
The away side need wickets and fast on the fourth day, as Cook can seen the urn slipping away from the 28-year-old and a draw at this stage would be a good result – all to play for.
