Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knows that three points in the Barclays Premier League clash against Aston Villa is vital.
With the Gunners playing last in the English top flight, Wenger has been able to see every other club in the top seven positions claim maximum return from their games, with Chelsea and Manchester City overtaking the north London outfit at the top of the table.
Fortunately for Arsenal, their injury crisis is starting to abate.
Olivier Giroud has recovered from ankle injury and illness to resume his position up front, while Mesut Ozil is ready to start a game after a shoulder complaint kept him from beginning the north London derby.
England winger Theo Walcott will miss the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage, but young German Serge Gnabry has proven himself worthy of a place in the starting line-up, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ought to be fit enough for a place on the bench.
Wenger will not be taking Aston Villa lightly – despite their poor form. Paul Lambert’s side have lost five of their last seven games.
Villa gave Arsenal a torrid time at Emirates Stadium in the teams’ first Premier League game of the season, winning 1-3, and though Olivier Giroud opened the scoring, Laurent Koscielny gave away a soft penalty and was sent off for two bookable offences to allow Villa back in it.
Christian Benteke scored a brace that day, but the big Belgian forward has not found the back of the net since September.
Now would be as good a time as any to relocate his goalscoring touch.
