Australia fast bowlers Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc claimed two important wickets to keep their side on top at lunch on day three.
Jonathan Trott went early when he edged to Michael Clarke at edge slip off the bowling of Harris, while Brad Haddin took an amazing catch when Cook edged down his leg-side off Starc.
