Gunners boss claims he always felt Song was destined for the top.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he always had faith that midfielder alex Song would turn out to be a great player – even when there were plenty telling him otherwise, according to the Daily Mirror.
Wenger brought the Cameroon star on loan to England when the midfielder was teenager back in 2005 before eventually signing him outright a year later for around £1m.
He then sold the tough tackling midfield star to Barcelona in 2012, but after failing to hold down a regular spot in the first team he now finds himself back in London with West Ham.
“I brought him here at the age of 17 and kept him despite all the opinions against him,” Wenger said.
“He developed into a very good player, so you don’t need to convince me he is a good player.
“I think he was a very good player when he was here and he didn’t play a lot when he was in Spain – you see players like Santi Cazorla who always looks stronger [when they play regularly].”
