Forward to remain at the Emirates Stadium.
The news from Sky Sports has since been echoed by the BBC: Theo Walcott’s long-running contract saga appears to finally be at an end.
The former Southampton star has reportedly signed a deal worth £100,000 a week plus bonuses at the Emirates Stadium – although there is no formal guarantee that speedy attacker will play as a central striker, rather than on the wing.
The 23-year-old had less than six months to run on his contract and was initially frozen out of Arsenal’s first team set-up until his form from the bench became impossible to ignore.
Walcott has continued to impress for Arsene Wenger’s inconsistent side and was rewarded with a striking role in recent Premier League matches to great effect, netting a stunning hattrick against Newcastle United last month.
Having convinced Walcott to sign a new deal, Wenger may have less of an urgent need to bring in attacking reinforcements, despite persistent links to Atletico Madrid forward Adrian Lopez.
Chelsea vs Arsenal tickets are now on sale for the London derby at Stamford Bridge on January 20th.
