Real Madrid striker has been tipped to make Emirates Stadium switch.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says he is encouraged by the quality of player being target by the club this summer.
The Gunners reportedly have a £70m transfer kitty and have been linked with a host of summer signings, including Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, Brazil international Julio Cesar and, most recently, Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen.
And Arsenal are thought to be closing in on the signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, a move that excites playmaker Wilshere.
Asked by ESPN about the prospect of the 25-year-old Argentine moving the Emirates Stadium, Wilshere said: “I’ve never played against him, but anyone who plays for Real Madrid and Argentina has to be quality.”
Wilshere, 21, stressed that the north London outfit need strength in depth if they are to compete with the likes of Manchester City and champions Man United next season.
“I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team but to add to the squad. We need our squad to be as deep as United’s and City’s.
“They can change their back four completely and still win. There’s no way United would have won the Premier League trophy with 18 players.”
