Ray Parlour has told his old club Arsenal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech this summer in an interview with Sports Mole, but is he really the signing they need?
There’s no doubt the Gunners could do with improvements at the back, and while Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina have their critics, it’s debatable if they’re really the weak points of that area of the team.
Arsenal’s recent horror-show at home to AS Monaco was down to mentality more than anything – Arsene Wenger’s side lost patience and pushed too many players forward. Combine that with Per Mertesacker’s lack of pace and you’re asking for trouble.
Perhaps this team could do with signings in defence, but more than anything a new method of coaching the players at the back is needed, as well as more protection from midfield.
As ever with Arsenal, isn’t the question really about a lack of experience and a lack of winners? Cech may bring that, of course, but one goalkeeper alone won’t improve results that dramatically.
