Spaniard lined-up for Emirates Stadium switch.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made an enquiry for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez – but the Frenchman is reluctant to meet his £14m release clause, reports the Daily Mirror.
Lopez has been linked with Arsenal since last month and has jumped to the top of Wenger’s list of striking targets, after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar agreed an extended stay at Schalke and Barcelona ruled out selling David Villa.
The Atletico star is a full Spain international but has been living in the shadow of beastly Colombian Radamel Falcao at the Vicente Calderon.
It is understood that Wenger has sent his scouts to watch the 24-year-old on a number of occasions and is ready to make his interest concrete this month.
But the Gunners are reluctant to pay over £10m for Lopez, who has never played outside Spain.
Wenger is desperate to land a new forward this month, with Theo Walcott’s future still in doubt and summer signing Olivier Giroud struggling for consistency.
Thierry Henry has been training with the North Londoners and Wenger had considered re-signing the legendary forward on another short-term loan deal, but has since ruled out Henry’s return.
