Allardyce says there have been no bids for Diame.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has dismissed speculation that midfielder Mohamed Diame could sign for Arsenal.
The Senegalese star only joined the Hammers in the summer from Premier League rivals Wigan but the 25-year-old has been linked with a January switch to the Emirates Stadium after it was revealed he has a release clause of £3.5m.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add a defensive midfielder to his squad this month to toughen up his classy but soft-centred side.
Abou Diaby looked rusty during his long-awaited return to action against Man City last weekend, while Mikel Arteta, who has been used in a holding position in the Frenchman’s absence, is facing three weeks on the sidelines.
Allardyce, however, has been quick to cool suggestions that Diame could be the answer to Wenger’s problems.
“You are always worried about losing players but we have not had a bid from Arsenal for Mo Diame. I can’t see where he would fit into their side,” the Hammers boss is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
Arsenal have had a miserable first half of the season and lie sixth in the Premier League table, 21 points behind leaders Manchester United and six points off fourth-place Tottenham.
