Championship club keen to offload wonderkid.
Birmingham City will again leave Arsenal and Southampton target Jack Butland out of the team for their FA Cup replay against Leeds to ensure the youngster is not cup-tied should he leave St Andrews’ this month, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The England international was left on the bench for the initial 1-1 draw at Elland Road last week, with Colin Doyle given the nod between the sticks. The Republic of Ireland stopper will again start on Wednesday night, in a clear indication that Brum are keen to sell their star goalkeeper this month.
After making just a handful of appearances on loan at League Two Cheltenham Town last season, Butland enjoyed a stunning summer in which he was part of England’s Euro 2012 squad and was number one for Team GB at the London Olympic Games.
The 19-year-old has made the goakeeper’s jersey at St Andrews’ his own this season and is attracting interest from a host of Premier League outfits, including Arsenal and Saints.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly lost faith with current number one Wojciech Szczesny, while back-up Lukas Fabianski could be allowed to join Nottingham Forest this month.
It is believed that Birmingham would accept a bid as low as £6m for Butland and Wenger, who has stressed that he is keen to build a team based on young British talent, is seriously considering making an offer.
