French hitman has four in four games already this term…
Arsenal’s French striker Olivier Giroud reckons he can win the Golden Boot with the Gunners this Premier League season, reports the Mirror.
The 26-year-old poacher actually managed 17 goals last year in his debut season, but many fans still campaigned heavily for manager Arsene Wenger to sign a new forward this summer.
The veteran French boss failed to do so, missing out on Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain in particular – and instead, has shown faith in his national compatriot.
“With this team I can score many goals,” said the 22 cap international.
“Can I finish the league’s top scorer? I must have a chance.”
Giroud is handsomely repaying the faith showed Wenger has shown in him – and scored four goals in the Premier league, and one in the Champions League to send Arsenal to the top of the table. Following the deadline day £42m purchase of Mesut Ozil – mood at the Emirates is buoyant, in enormous contrast to the vitriolic atmosphere that filled the ground during an opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
Giroud actually limped off late in Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland, but has assured fans he will be fit for the Champions League tie this week.
“It is not bad. I twisted my ankle but, fortunately, it is nothing major,” he added.
“Marseille? Yes, I am OK, I will be fine.”
