Arsenal forward welcomes prospect of Luis Suarez signing from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud says he is excited by reports that Arsenal are looking to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool.
The Uruguayan has announced that he is looking to leave Anfield this summer, and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre confirmed this week that the Gunners have had a bid rejected, with reports that a second bid of £40m has been made this week.
Giroud feels that the increased competition for places up front that Suarez would provide will be a positive for Arsenal, and that the two of them could work well in a 4-4-2 formation – though the classic little and large partnership would be quite a departure for Arsene Wenger, who has favoured a lone striker for years.
“I could have a good relationship with Suarez on the pitch,” Giroud told L’Equipe, as reported by the Metro.
“So I am for Suarez’s arrival. I’m not afraid of competition.”
Giroud added that his target for the coming season is to improve on his statistics from the previous campaign.
“On a personal level, my goal is to do better than last season, so put more than 17 goals and 10 assists.”
