Rooney scares opposition says England teammate.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere has urged the club to sign Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
The Gunners have been linked with a shock move for the England international striker, who handed in a transfer request at the end of last season and reportedly remains unsettled at Old Trafford.
Robin van Persie made the switch from the Emirates to United last summer and if Rooney were to do the opposite, it would rank as one of the most dramatic Premier League deals in recent seasons.
And Wilshere, 21, believes the north London outfit should pursue his Three Lions teammate.
Asked by ESPN about Rooney moving to Arsenal, the playmaker replied: “If it happens, it would be amazing.
“He’s the type of player who can win you trophies. And just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that.”
Wilshere is six years Rooney’s junior and admitted that the former Everton forward as a role model for him growing up.
“When he first broke onto the scene, he was 16 and scored an amazing goal against Arsenal.
“Then he was playing in the Euros at 18 and I think he’s been England’s best player for the last eight years.
“When a young player like myself or [Theo] Walcott, or [Alex Oxlade-]Chamberlain, comes into the senior [England] team, he puts his arm around you and looks after you.
“Then it’s different [at club level[. He’s the type of player who takes no prisoners. He likes to get stuck in.”
