Emirates Stadium midfielder not jealous of former Gunners who have moved on to win trophies elsewhere.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says he holds no jealousy towards players who have left the Gunners to find success elsewhere.
In recent seasons, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, and Gael Clichy have all left the north London club and won trophies with the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Manchester City, whilst Robin Van Persie has a very decent chance of claiming a trophy with Manchester United this season, particularly with the Red Devils in pole position in the Premier League.
“No, I don’t think there’s any jealousy,” said Wilshere to the Daily Mirror though.
“Maybe there’s jealousy that those two teams are currently at the top. But I don’t think they’re that far ahead of us.
Indeed, Wilshere added that he was encouraged by the words of Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany about his team.
“Quality-wise, I think that I heard Vincent Kompany say the best team he played this season was Arsenal.
“I’m not jealous of them. I know we’ve got the quality to get up there – we just have to be more professional, learn to see out games, and take our chances.”
“It’s natural you feel excited about the future with Chamberlain and me, and everything.
“I think with young players there is an enthusiasm you don’t get with older players. We’re not where we want to be yet, but we can become top players and challenge for everything.”
Arsene Wenger backed up his young midfielder’s words.
“If you give players a chance from 18, and at 23 they go somewhere else – you work basically for another club.”
“When you go for a policy like ours, it’s important you keep the players at your club from 23 onwards. If they are British and have Arsenal ingrained in them from an early age, it is easier to keep them. What you want is for the players to grow up together and say ‘we will be successful together.'”
