Ramsey reveals a meeting with Arsene Wenger convinced him to choose Arsenal over Man United.
Aaron Ramsey has admitted Manchester United tried to sign him before he joined Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008.
Several media outlets reported that the then-17-year-old Ramsey had agreed terms with United before opting for the Gunners and Ramsey says he ‘had options’.
The Wales international said a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in Switzerland convinced him to move to North London over Manchester.
“I had options,” Ramsey told The Daily Mail.
“Manchester United was one. But Arsenal flew us (Ramsey and his family) to Switzerland privately, to Basle where he was doing commentary for the Euros. We went to his hotel room. He talked us through everything. And he said he wanted to take me straight into the first team.
“I think United wanted to loan me back to Cardiff.
“The manager has always believed in me. When I was injured he gave me a contract. That says it all, really, and I’m glad I’m now paying him back.”
