Gunners reportedly close in on move for Bilbao defender.
Arsenal are apparently closing in on a £34m deal to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte during the January transfer window, the Metro reports.
Wenger has reportedly identified the France under-21 international as the ideal man to shore up his side’s shaky defence, and a move will likely go ahead without a hitch after he agreed to pay the player’s release clause.
Laporte has been earmarked as one of the most exciting young talents to emerge recently, and Wenger has moved early in order to avoid being stumped for his signature.
The 6’2″ centre-back is famed for his tackling and positional sense, and has been watched a numerous occasions by the Arsenal scouting team since he made his breakthrough into the Bilbao first team back in 2012.
