The Russian outfit have offered the 22-year-old a four-year deal worth £3.75m after tax but London quartet QPR, Fulham, Arsenal and Tottenham remain interested in the player.
QPR and another unnamed Premier League club – believed to be one of the North London duo – have made bids for M’Vila that could rise to £6.6m, while Fulham have indicated they would pay £5.8m.
The situation is complicated by M’Vila’s ban from international football until June 2014, following a break of curfew while on under-21 duty last year.
If the player can persuade the French Football Federation (FFF) to overturn the ban, he will look to push through a move to the Premier League, or remain at Rennes, in order to boost his international hopes ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
The FFF is set to decide this weekend whether or not to maintain its stance and if M’Vila’s ban is upheld, he could make the lucrative move to Russia before looking to resume his international career in late 2014.
QPR boss Harry Redknapp was confident of landing M’Vila with a £6.2m offer – rising by £400,000 if the Hoops avoid relegation – but the player is unconvinced about joining the Premier League’s bottom club.
He would prefer to join the unknown club, most likely Tottenham, who would pay £3.3m up front and around £3m more at the end of the season.
The English clubs are suggesting a salary of around £3m a year, although an issue is Britain’s current 50% tax rate. It is due to reduce to 45% in April 2013 but this still compares unfavourably to Russia.
M’Vila’s asking price has dropped dramatically sine the summer, when Rennes wanted £17m from suitors Arsenal.
M’Vila has endured a serious of high-profile off-field problems but has made 16 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, helping Rennes to the French League Cup final.
