It is understood that the North Londoners have sent scouts down to South Wales to watch the big centre back on a number occasions already this season, with Wenger known to be a keen admirer of the Wales international, and with the Gunners in need of some central-defensive reinforcements, they could very well make a move for the player in the January transfer window.
Wenger is expected to allow centre-backs Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny both to leave the Emirates at the end of the season, and so is said to be on the lookout for cove in the centre of the Arsenal defence.
However, Arsenal will face stiff competition for Williams’s services from Liverpool, whose manager Brendan Rodgers coached the player during their time together at the Liberty stadium and who is also believed to be keen on signing the defender, although the Merseysiders must wait until the summer before making their move due to an agreement that is in place between Rodgers and his former paymasters about the now Liverpool head coach not signing Swansea players before the summer of 2013.
