The German is just the start of a new buying culture at the club.
Things seem pretty good for Arsenal fans of late; the best winning run since 2007, top of the Premier League and club record signing Mesut Ozil is already impressing.
Now owner Stan Kroenke is about to make things even sweeter in the red half of north London, as the American pledges more funds to manager Arsene Wenger for future purchases.
The 66-year-old has spoken about Ozil and the club’s ambitions of winning the league title and is clearly aware that money needs to be spent to achieve this.
“There would be nothing cooler, I’ve never experienced it over here, to win the championship of the Premier League,” Kroenke told the Mirror.
“What a great player [Ozil] is. His spirit is great, the players who are with him… you can judge a lot by what players say when they leave and they weren’t happy when he left [Real Madrid].
“We weren’t there to make a statement. It’s absolutely not done for that. It was done purely because our manager views him as worth that money
“We’ve always said that there are resources available to Arsene. We have always been, and will continue to be, very supportive.”
It’s a turnaround in policy at the Gunners, who up until the arrival of Ozil had never spent more than £20m on a new player.
This support from Kroenke however suggests that maybe Wenger will be allowed to go shopping again in the January transfer window, with former target Luis Suarez still looking like the most likely option.
