Wenger hopeful of persuading Milan man to swap San Siro for Emirates.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has identified unsettled AC Milan playmaker Urby Emanuelson as his No 1 target for the January transfer window, reports Caughtoffside.
The highly-regarded Netherlands international has enjoyed an up-and-down season at San Siro, on some occasions showing flashes of the brilliance that persuaded the Rossoneri to bring him to Serie A from Eredivisie giants Ajax in January 2011.
However, his inconsistency combined with a poor fitness record have also meant that the 26year-old has started just eight of the club’s 19 league matches to date, and with Milan owner and former Italy Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi currently on a massive drive to bring down costs at the Italian giants, the Gunners believe that they have an excellent chance to persuading the left-sided player to move to the Emirates this month.
Wenger has earmarked the left side of his team as one of the main areas in which he wants to strengthen in the January transfer window, especially in light of Brazil left-back Andre Santos’s recent wobbly displays, while first-choice full-back Kieran Gibbs has once again been plagued by injury problems this season.
And, with the prospect of Champions League football on offer in north London come February, Emanuelson could very well be an Arsenal player by the end of this month.
