Napoli star could be on his way back to London.
Arsenal are interested in a surprise January deal for former West Ham midfielder Valrom Behrami, fanatix has learnt.
The Swiss star is currently enjoying a fine season for Serie A outfit Napoli and it is understood that scouts from the North London club have watched Behrami twice in past month.
Boss Arsene Wenger looks certain to add to his squad in January, with Arsenal currently well off the pace in the Premier League title race and trailing neighbours Tottenham by two points in the chase for the all-important fourth Champions League spot.
Hard-working Behrami, 27, is not the type of central midfielder normally targeted by Wenger but the reportedly Frenchman believes the Switzerland international can add some much-needed steel to his team, which has badly missed the injured Abou Diaby in recent months.
Behrami spent three seasons with West Ham after joining from Lazio in 2008 but failed to make an impression in London before returning to the Serie A with Fiorentina.
The versatile star, who was often deployed on the right wing at Upton Park, has flourished in a central role for Napoli and Wenger could deploy Behrami behind the exciting triumvirate of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta.
Napoli are reluctant to lose Behrami in January, particularly with the club sitting third in the Serie A but a big bid from the Gunners could tempt the Italian outfit to cash-in on the battler.
