Wenger says French is unlikely to return to the Emirates Stadium for a third spell.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out another loan move for Thierry Henry.
The 34-year-old Gunners legend had been widely expected to re-join Arsenal on-loan during the January transfer window, but despite admitting he was considering it two weeks ago, Wenger has now poured cold water over the idea.
‘I do not think it would be good for him [Thierry Henry] to play with us again,’ said Wenger.
‘He should relax and prepare for the next MLS season.’
This is an odd state of affairs.
There appeared to be a very good chance that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry would return to the North London club for a third, albeit temporary, spell. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had publicly confirmed the possibility that the French veteran would move to the Emirates on loan for just over a month during MLS off-season.
Now, it seems that a deal is off the table and you have to wonder why.
Perhaps Wenger realised a move for the 35-year-old would not be enough to appease Gunners fans, who are eager to see the Arsenal boss invest serious sums of money improving the club’s attacking options.
Or maybe New York Red Bulls were simply not open to the risky nature of a loan deal that could have left their star striker ahead of the next MLS campaign.
Either way the dream of an Arsenal return is off the cards…for now…
