Wenger wants Argentinian defensive midfielder at the Emirates Stadium.
Anderlecht have named their price for Arsenal target Lucas Biglia, although the Gunners will face stiff competition for the midfielder from AC Milan.
The Argentinean international has interested Arsene Wenger for a number of years, and now Anderlecht say they’re willing to do business at £8.3million, with Milan confirmed as one of the front-runners for his signature.
As soon as Alex Song had departed for Barcelona last summer, Argentine Biglia was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and talk of a transfer has resurfaced as the January transfer window approaches.
The Argentina international has been quoted as saying that he hopes to leave Anderlecht and has openly discussed the apparent €8m (£6.5m) price-tag on his head.
The 26-year-old has spent the last six years with the Brussels outfit, helping the Belgians to three domestic titles and forcing his way into the national team set-up despite competition from the likes of Javier Mascherano and Esteban Cambiasso.
No doubt Biglia will hope that a high-profile move to the Premier League will further his ambitions of playing a key role for Argentina at World Cup 2014.
A move for Biglia is certainly a ‘Wenger-style’ signing, with the Gunners boss known for targeting players who are not household names and the Anderlecht enforcer may feel it’s time for a new challenge.
Arsenal could well do with a fresh defensively minded midfielder, with Spaniard Mikel Arteta currently operating in a holding role to deal with the lack of an out and out ‘enforcer’. Whilst Biglia is more than just a tough-tackling presence, it is perhaps this side of his game that most interests boss Wenger, particularly while Abou Diaby remains no closer to a return to first-team action.
AC Milan are also interested in a deal for Biglia, however.
