The report states that Bordeaux are looking to recruit a new striker themselves, but have been outbid by the Gunners in their respective pursuits of Rolan.
Rolan is a 20 year-old attacker for Defensor Sporting Club, capable of playing both high on the right flank or as a central attacker.
Impressively, he has scored 8 goals in fifteen league games for Defensor, and that coupled with his three assists mean that he is directly involved with a goal more than once every two games on average.
He is unlikely the star name that Arsenal fans are looking for, but Arsene Wenger has hinted that he is looking to sign a senior striker able to affect the team’s play immediately, and the wily French manager still has a good eye for talent.
It is easy to forget that there is another promising striker already on the Gunners’ books.
Costa Rica international Joel Campbell – on loan at Real Betis – is the same age as Diego Rolan, and has scored three goals in his fifteen appearances for the Spanish club.
Perhaps he and Rolan will make up the Arsenal strike partnership of the future.
