The brilliant Spanish playmaker will need to ask Chelsea to leave before Monday evening…
Arsenal are still very much interested in Chelsea’s Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, but the 25-year-old will have to hand in an official transfer request if he wants to force a move away from Stamford Bridge, claims the Mirror.
With the transfer window set to finally close on Monday evening, Arsenal are still yet to bring in an established first-team player, with fans desperate for transfer activity after seeing north-London rivals spend over £100m already.
Mata has emerged as a prime target, after the mercurial midfielder is clearly not rated highly by Chelsea’s returning Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho. Mata hasn’t started any of Chelsea’s league matches, and didn’t get on the pitch in Super Cup defeat to Bayern Munich either.
Chelsea will not actively seek to sell Mata, but the Spaniard will be anxious to leave to get the guaranteed first-team football his ability no doubt warrants, especially in the run up to the World Cup in Brazil next summer.
For this reason, the player will have to actively pursue a move away from Stamford Bridge with less than 48 hours until the transfer window shuts.
