Arsenal are being linked with a late move for PSG’s battling French midfielder Blaise Matuidi, reports Goal.
The 26-year-old is available on a free transfer at the end of the season, but the Gunners have apparently told the Ligue 1 champions that they would be willing to pay a sizeable fee for his services before the window shuts.
Matuidi though has been a virtual ever-present for the Parisian giants this term, making 23 starts altogether, and impressing everyone with his combative approach, and ability to play the ball simply in midfield.
In this respect, he can be compared to Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini, who is about to start a three game ban following the red-card he picked up against Southampton on Tuesday evening.
PSG do not want to part with Matuidi, and the only surprise is that he hasn’t already signed an extension on his current deal.
If the Gunners could tempt the French club with an offer though, Matuidi could come in and strengthen the title push. Arsenal sit one point behind top placed Manchester City, but have an incredibly tricky run of fixtures to play in February, including Premier League ties against Liverpool and Manchester United.
Matuidi has won 19 caps for France since joining PSG in 2011.
