Gunners want PSG man to make Emirates Stadium switch next summer.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly keeping tabs of PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
France international Matuidid has been on terrific form for the Ligue 1 leaders this season, starting all but one of PSG’s 18 league games and excelling in a defensive midfield role.
It is understood that Wenger does not believe that PSG, who are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League, will sell the 25-year-old in January but the Gunners boss is plotting a summer bid for his compatriot.
Arsenal are short of options at defensive midfield, with About Diaby only just set for a return to training after injuring his thigh in October.
But Wenger believes that the winter transfer window is a poor time to sign new recruits and is prepared to wait until next summer to land Matuidi.
Wenger was interested in the bidding for the former Troyes midfielder in summer 2011, when Matuidi was still at Saint-Etienne, but the North London club still had Cameroonian Alex Song, now with Barcelona, on their books.
Matuidi joined mega-rich PSG for just £5m but Wenger has not stopped tracking the anchorman’s progress.
PSG are reportedly targeting the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Carlos Tevez next summer and Arsenal are hopeful that the Parc des Princes will have to sell some of the smaller names in order to balance out the squad.
